About

Elizabeth MacCarrig Dunn is a screenwriter and director born and raised at the Jersey Shore. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Film with Distinction from ArtCenter College of Design at just 19 years of age, and earned her bachelor’s in Radio, TV & Film with highest honors from Rowan University at 16.

Elizabeth’s work intersects personal history and collective memory, using research-driven storytelling to explore the preservation of local histories and the emotional landscapes of forgotten or overlooked communities, blending history and sense of place to touch on relevant subjects through a unique lens. Having defied societal expectations all her life, she draws from her unique experiences within coming-of-age narratives that often centerfold young women breaking cultural norms.

Her directing work spans narrative and commercial as well as a short documentary (Glassboro: The Beginnings) that premiered at the CUT International Film Festival. Elizabeth is also a published co-author of the children’s book MacCarrig.

A Woman in Film fellow, Elizabeth currently resides in Los Angeles, spending her free time watching period dramas or playing classical piano.

Directing a film is an intense journey which takes unyielding passion and perseverance, much like mastering a Chopin waltz on the piano. But when finished, the magnitude of the accomplishment is magical. -Elizabeth
